Prairie Winds Gallery Renovation

January 5, 2003
Bill’s in Red Wing,

On a mild December day over a year ago, Bill rode a train down to Red Wing from St Paul to scout out a possible second gallery location.

He looked at a number of spots but none proved workable. Later he did find a forlorn little house on the upper east side of Red Wing. He purchased it last July. His days normally spent in Montana were for the next 3 months spent working on that little house and yard. True to the plans he drew up, Bill transformed this 1850’s home into a charming spot straight out of a storybook. At the top of Potter Street at West 8th Street, overlooking east Red Wing, the large wooded lot is at the base of Sorin’s Bluff atop which is a beautiful city park overlooking all the countryside. He called his new studio “Prairie Winds Gallery”, open every weekend now since early November.

As you may know by looking at Bill’s biography on this website, He holds a strong interest in his hometown, St Paul. Two years ago he made a run for the office of mayor in St Paul. Joining the race only weeks before the primary, he was concerned about the direction of the city and felt he had a vision, which would benefit St Paul. He did not win the race, but his concern for the Capitol City has not abated. Only recently did the city councilman for Bill’s favorite areas of St Paul announce he would not seek another term. With the elections this fall Bill has decided to try politics one more time. This summer Bill will take his message to a smaller audience, the voters of St Paul’s Ward 2 (Downtown, the West Side, Irvine Park, West 7th St, and Summit Hill). Stay tuned for the coming campaign...

Bill did not know how long he would split his time between St Paul, Montana, and Red Wing. His Red Wing property is now for sale so he can prepare for his campaign. He put much care into his property there, and hopes to find a buyer who will appreciate the character of “Prairie Winds".

Offered at $87,500, the quiet location with its oversized lot is within easy walking distance of Downtown, the train depot, and marina. Sixty miles from St Paul/Minneapolis the 2 bedroom, 750 sq ft home would make a cozy hideaway.

Red Wing house is sold,

Since Bill’s St Paul Pioneer Press advertisement began under Vacation Properties with the heading “1850’s Red Wing Cottage” he has received over 25 calls on the property. Bill has now entered into a purchase agreement with the second caller on the first day of the ad. A closing date of Feb 7 is scheduled. The couple, nearing retirement, is all that he had hoped for of buyers for his little Red Wing House.
