In the spring of 2002 Bill was at the gym in downtown St Paul one evening, he was talking to another “regular” about work and the conversation led to this gentleman explaining their company would once again sponsor a Charles Schulz peanuts statue, a now yearly tribute to the late cartoonist who grew up in St Paul. The first year featured nearly a hundred Snoopy statues that were decorated by artists and placed around town. They were a hit with visitors to this fair city. Year two saw Charlie Brown in over 100 costumes placed around town; he too was a hit. Year three was Lucy’s turn, and Bill remarked to his gym buddy I have an idea for a Lucy Statue that will be sure to please. Long story short - the design Bill submitted to St Paul based Minnesota Life was chosen by that firm as the “Piece de resistance” of the over 400 entries.
