West of Glasgow, Montana where Bill leaves the train behind before traveling north an hour to his homestead is the Etchart Barns. St. Paul, Minnesota native and railroad magnate J.J. Hill was at the turn of the century (1900) busy building his transcontinental railroad across Montana enroute to the pacific coast. The original barn was constructed by Hill as part of a model farm & ranch operation to show perspective land buyers that indeed this remote grasslands country along the Milk River could be successfully settled. Today the ranch operation is still in use under the name Page-Whitman Land & Cattle.
