Located in North Valley County in far northern Montana, Opheim is located10 miles south of the Canadian border and 120 miles west of North Dakota. Founded in 1915, Opheim, pop. 100, occupies the highest geographic location in the region. It is an outpost in the area, with ideal summers and tough winters. Opheim was the last name of an early European American settler. Appropriately enough, in Norwegian this name means farmstead on higher ground! The area was one of the last homesteaded in America.

Wheat farming is king here, with ranching not far behind. Just west of this well kept little town the bench land gives way, opening a grand and vast view of one of North America’s best grasslands landscapes.
