Plans for new cafe in Opheim, Montana
|
June, 2003
This past April Bill purchased from Opheim residents Evan & Mert Granrude 3 adjoining mains-street properties; two vacant lots and the long vacant grocery building. The grocery building has a long history, it was even a movie theater back in the early days - in the basement Bill found several sets of theater chairs. Bill had no intention of ever buying property in town, but when Evan one day last fall brought up the subject he considered it for a few months. They talked some and a deal was struck.
Bill knew the troubled Visitor Center needed a new home, and the town could use a second café. His new property would fill both needs.
The photo shows how the property appeared this past winter. Bill has created a perspective and a plan view of his vision for the property. Look closely and you can see where he intended to move the original Visitor Center before it was destroyed in late April, the rebuilt Center now stands upon this spot. Envisioned for the balance of the lots: a small old-time schoolhouse replica for kids to play school or house in, picnic tables and gardens filled with wildflowers and native grasses. A windmill will become the park's centerpiece. Overall, it is intended to be a picturesque spot for residents and visitors to the area.
